This site is dedicated to provide information regarding toxicology reports and poly-drug use. The goal is to collect statistics on lethal dosages and provide information to interpret autopsy reports. I will also help you understand the unit of measurement in autopsy reports.
Units: the units for blood levels vary but can be converted to nG/mL standard. Generally toxicity is stated in terms of nanograms/milliliter. Some conversion sites are included in links below. Some common known toxicities:
Fentanyl: varies, but generally 2mg ingested is considered fatal, with 5-130 nG/mL being found in various studies. The amount of fentanyl has been found to be as low as 2ng when other drugs are present in the toxocology report.
Example:
My son's death in August 2021 provided an example where a small amount of fentanyl was found, but which was fatal due to the combination of use with other drugs.
Cause of death: Toxic effects of cocaine, fentanyl, clonazolam, diphenhydramine, and ethanol
Manner of death: accidental
Interpretation: while the amount of Fentanyl in the above report is < 6ng/mL, in combination with other drugs it was lethal.
